Wikipedia is probably not the first place that comes to mind when you think about , but Wikipedia's sound/list page actually is a great place for downloading classical music.

You'll find a large selection from various composers and performers, and they're all organized by composer to make them easier to browse. It's actually incredibly simple to do because you don't have to log in to a user account and all the music is basically in one place and just a single click away from being downloaded to your computer.

How to Find Music at Wikipedia

The easiest way to find classical music at Wikipedia is to visit their page. This is the main index of where all the classical music can be found.

All the music is categorized in subpages by composer, so start by choosing the letter of the composer's last name. You'll then be taken to a page full of classical music by composers with that last name.

On that new page, you can then sort the music by composer, file name, the year it was added to that Wikipedia list, and also by any comments that are given for that particular music file. Sorting is done by clicking on the boxes at the very top of the table of music.

If you don't know the composer by name or if you'd rather search by the title of the piece, you can use the search box instead of the alphabetical subpage links. The search box lets you search within all of those different pages at once.

How to Download Music at Wikipedia

Before you download the music, you can listen to the audio right on the website just by clicking on the play button. Depending on the file type of the song, you also may be able to click on the file name itself and play the music in your browser that way.

Actually downloading the classical music to your computer is very simple and can be accomplished in two ways. The first is by right-clicking the title of the song and choosing to save it to your computer (you might instead be able to just left-click to start the download). Your other option is to click the "Menu" button off to the right of the song that you want, then click the download icon, and finally right-click the audio file from in there, and choose to save it.

Most of the classical music on Wikipedia is in the OGG format. If you want the audio files to be in a different format, you can run them through a free audio converter after you've downloaded them so that you can save them as something else like MP3s.

Another way you can listen to the music on Wikipedia is through an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, with the app. This will let you stream the music from those devices, but you won't be able to download the songs onto the device and store them with other songs you may have.
